Considered as the best French tank in 1939, the SOMUA S-35 was in many ways superior to all foreign tanks in the same category, including German tanks. The 47 mm S.A.M 35 gun on the tank is itself the best anti-tank weapon in existence. The S-35s took the full brunt of the Spring offensive of 1940 and were almost all destroyed or captured by German forces.
